Jean Gagnon is an independent curator, critic, and art administrator. He recently served as advisor for corporate affairs and development to Antimodular inc., the studio of artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. He was the Director of preservation and access to collections at the Cinémathèque québécoise in Montréal from 2010 to 2017. He was Executive Director of the Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science and Technology from 1998 to 2008; before joining the foundation he had been Associate Curator of Media Arts at the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) from 1991 to 1998. He was the initiator and member of the management committee of the DOCAM Research Alliance (Documentation and Conservation of Media Arts Heritage) from 2005 to 2010. He co-directed a special issue of artpress 2 in France in the Spring of 2009 entitled Media Arts, Conservation and Restoration. He has notably contributed to other art magazines such as Public, Art Journal, esse arts +opinions, ETC and Ciel variable a contemporary photography art magazine for which he also serves as member of the board of directors. He also sits on the board of directors of V/Tape in Toronto.
